Five minutes later they reached the village. They would have been there sooner but both Gustaygus and Vania had no wings so it impossible to fly. G’ralayf could but she didn’t even let them out of her sight for a second.
The village was located in a miniature valley in between some hills. The dragon’s home were dug out of the side of the hills. Huts were made out of flammable stuff. In the middle of the village was a rather large dragon stirring something in a large pot. The dragon was orange with red wings.
When the dragons approached, Mavia looked up. “Hello, Vania, could you introduce me to your friends?” “Sure. This is G’ralayf and Gustaygus.” Vania pointed to them when she said their names with her tail. “Well then, welcome to Safyre.” Mavia continued to work on making whatever she was making. “Is Safyre the name of your village?” Gustaygus asked. “Yup. Come on, I’ll show you around.” Vania led them around the village.
“This is where we live.” Vania stopped at a rather large hole dug out of the hill. “Ma-” Vania was cut short by a loud roar. Dragons shattered, trying to protect their homes. Vania said, “Hurry, come with me.” Vania led them to a big rock. She muttered some words and the rock moved aside to reveal a tunnel.
They entered the tunnel silently. Vania muttered some more words and the rock moved in front of the tunnel. Vania lit a torch. “Who were they? Why are they here?” Gustaygus asked.
“The Dark Dragons. Do you know why our village is called Safyre? Well, there’s a legend, and in the legend it says there is a legendary gem, the Safyre, or the Dragon Gem. Whoever possesses the gem, will have the power to rule the entire dragon world. The king and queen that time, when the gem was found, knew that someone would eventually steal it. So they hid it. They prophesied that the gem-when the time is right- will summon the Chosen One, or the rightful heir, to protect the dragon world, from the clutches of the Dark Dragons.” Vania explained.
“There’s more. When the king and queen hid the gem, they broke it into eight pieces, hidden in the eight most dangerous places in the dragon world. It’s rumored the map to find these pieces are hidden in Safyre, the village.” “That still doesn’t explain why the Dark Dragons came through my old home.” G’ralayf said. “We’ll see.” Mavia drew some marks in the dirt with a single talon. Then she murmured some words and in the blink of an eye, all of the dragons were in the storage room of G’ralayf and Gustaygus’s burrow.
Starrior squeaked with surprise. Mavia looked around the room. Her eyes stopped moving when she saw the egg/seed thing.
Vania saw something see couldn’t identify flash in Mavia’s eyes. Then Mavia reached over to Starrior and pulled a piece of fur of him. Mavia carefully placed the piece of fur in the tiniest bottle anyone had seen. Then she touched the egg/seed thing with the bottle. Just like it had at the crater, the egg/seed began to glow.
It suddenly broke, and in its place was a piece of aged paper and a little blue gem. When Gustaygus looked at the gem, an image flashed through her mind. A female and male dragon.
The male had horns that curved in a loop shape. He was mostly green with a little bit of creamy white. The dragon had long claws and a tail that ended in leaf shape. Around his neck was half of something Gustaygus couldn’t identify. A deep voice boomed, “Have courage and light will shine through the darkness.” The female was astonishing. She had long, straight horns made out of ice. She had wings that were lined with ice shards. She also had long claws and her slender body led to a long tail that ended with a crystal. The crystal was amazing. It was transparent and shone with all the colors of the rainbow. Around that dragon’s neck was the other half of the thing the male was wearing. A gentle voice whispered a single word, “Believe.” The image disappeared in a flash and Gustaygus was back at reality.
She looked around; none of the other dragons seemed alarmed. She decided to keep the image to herself. For now, she thought.
Mavia walked swiftly over to the broken egg. She picked up the piece of paper. She unfolded it and read,
“Finally you found the first piece of your journey, first you must solve the riddle to move on:”
A tiny piece of gold
Find the silver Kinyel
Wait for a story to be told
“Mama…” Gustaygus asked.
“Hmm?”
“Why do we have to find wood?”
“It’s Kinyel, not kindle.”
Davio looked around the blackened village. Some dragons lay motionless on the charred earth. Davio was a treasure hunter and an expert on riddles and mysterious stuff like that. Hmm, looks like the Dark Dragons were here. Davio could see purple mist coming from the umm… dead dragons. Davio sniffed the air. Not so long ago they left too. He thought. A new scent drifted to him. He smelled… Living dragons? He thought. He followed the scent to an enormous boulder.
“Hmm…” Davio studied the boulder and exclaimed, “Aha!” He pressed certain areas on the boulder. The boulder slowly started to move and shook the ground. The boulder moved to reveal a tunnel. Davio walked into the darkness of the tunnel
